I was going to put an expletive in the title, however, it would have come across a little forceful so I reconsidered. I really feel strongly about toning down the importance of Hope.
One of my favorite areas to consult in is sleep. I used to be an insomniac and, to this day, 70% of the U.S. population is sleep deprived. I absolutely love to hearing that my clients sleep better and are able to relax because I’ve been on both sides of that cycle. I know how hard it is on the body and how relieving it is to, finally, have a great night sleep.
Some reasons people don’t sleep well are linked to anxiety and stress, both of which are fueled by self talk. Regardless of where we live and what we do, we spend 100% of our time with ourselves. What do you tell yourself all day? What do you think about before you go to bed?
Hope is a pretty feeling and a beautiful idea. It looks nice to start with when there is nothing else to look at. Hope doesn’t achieve anything though. Action is the mother of change! Thinking about doing something can be a great source of anxiety: a to-do list, a conversation with a coworker, a presentation for your business. So what do you tell yourself?
Enters Faith.
Faith is that voice that tells you: “What’s the worst thing that can happen?” “You’ve done this before, you can do it again!” “Do you remember when you thought you would never figure “fill the blank” out, and you did?”
Faith reminds you how capable you are, how far you’ve come, where your heart is, what your purpose is.
Faith gets the job done! Faith fuels Action. Action brings change and improvement.
I personally remember learning to drive a standard transmission as a very stressful experience. I did figure it out though! So I keep that in mind when things get challenging. What I applied to learning to drive, so many years ago, is still in me. If I can learn to drive a stick, I can do anything!
What a different night sleep some individuals would have if they could tell themselves, with absolute faith: “Good job today! You’ve done your best! Let’s do it again tomorrow!” Say it as often as you’d like, it’s like an unlimited data plan 🙂
Reach for the greatest version of yourself!
